EMDR

One of my favorite concepts from my EMDR training was “The Past is Present,” which captures how past experiences can continue to influence our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. EMDR showed me how the past is “alive” in our brains and nervous systems, and how memories can inadvertently affect present moment experiences, even in small ways.

EMDR can help address acute past and recent traumatic events, as well as developmental trauma, which is a more complex and layered set of events in childhood or young adulthood, which may be contributing to recurring emotional distress, negative beliefs about self, low self-esteem, or relationship issues. You can read more about EMDR here.

EMDR Bilateral Stimulation

One foot in the past, one foot in the present.
In EMDR, Bilateral Stimulation (BLS) is used to target
both the left and right hemispheres of the brain to aid
in reprocessing traumatic memories. We may use one
or all three of these techniques below
(visual, tactile, audible) for BLS in our EMDR sessions.
